In 2020, the Newmarket Jobs Initiative was begun with the mission to hire local talent from the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan into full-time jobs with our member and partner businesses. There are over 20,000 residents in the surrounding neighborhoods and over 50% live within 5 miles of their workplace. These workers stay on average 15 years in their careers and help sustain the local economy.
In the first 2 years of operation, the Newmarket Jobs Initiative was considered a resounding success with over 100 job-seekers being placed into fulfilling new careers that span entry-level, blue-collar, and professional positions averaging $40,000 a year.
With the formation of the Newmarket Business Improvement District in 2022, the Job Initiative management was taken on by BID staff. We are committed to continuing the early success of the Initiative and are excited to place even more local job seekers into fulfilling, wealth-building careers right in our neighborhoods.

The Newmarket Jobs Initiative “targets” job seekers who are:
- 18 years old and up
- Living in, or originally from, Roxbury, Dorchester or Mattapan
- *Affiliated with one of our community-based partner organizations, listed HERE (*CBO affiliation is mandatory)
